The Fairground

The Carousel

For energetic youngsters we have one of the finest adventure playgrounds in the West!

Our Carousel was built in 1904 by Alans of Oxford for the Welsh show family of Studt and was towed around this area by a Fowler steam engine called the 'Pride of Wales'. After the Second World War they went to the Isle of Wight where the original set's steam organ fell off the ferry. In 1963 they went to Kent before being bought by Billy Butlin for his new holiday camp in Minehead where they stayed until 1999.

Each horse was originally hand carved in Germany with the mechanics that drive the set made in Britain. It has recently been completely restored and this elegant and historic ride is the only survivor of four. Maybe you'll see why we're proud of it!
